Archaeological glass: The surface and beyond
Abstract
Many archaeological glass artifacts from antiquity to me-dieval times seem to possess an interesting characteristic: with time and decay, they may become even more pre-cious than the original owners could ever have imagined. Aer centuries of burial in the soil, the process of degra-dation oen results in rainbowlike iridescence surface ef-fects that have not only captured the interest of scientists but also fascinated collectors and the general public.
