ROMAN GLASS JUG I CENTURY A.D. SYRIA (SIDON ?) Amethyst colored glass. Ovoid body with cylindrical neck, spreading rim folded on top and beveled along inner edge. Neck free blown, body blown in two-part mold.Handle with loop-shaped protuberance over rim. Relief frieze of tendril scrolls bordered above and below by friezes of flutes. Iridescence and surface pitting. Lower body professionally mended from original pieces only. Comes with custom made stand. H 2.6"(6.8 cm). Parallels: Stern E.M..
